History And Scope Of Cosmetic Microbiology

Cosmetics products are a mixture of biological or chemically derived compounds. As for the counter products, the cosmetics industry is remarkably prime. There are, however, limited guidelines regulating full active ingredient prescription as is the usual formulation of the cosmetic type.

In addition, cosmetic products do not include their formulation monographs and chemicals as the cosmetics industry is not subject to strict control. As the first body to govern the key ingredients for the cosmetics industry in 1938, the FODCA was introduced.

Microbiology is a study of the microorganisms not seen with the naked eye, for example, bacteria, protozoa, fungi and other similar organisms.

Medical microbiology is a medical science sector which works in the area of infectious disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment. In studying these minute organisms researchers have discovered the association of microbes with certain diseases. In addition, various clinical applications for improved health microbes have been researched in this area.

Microbiology has played a leading role in advances in the healthcare industry, particularly in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. A key aspect of cosmetic product safety is microbiological testing. The development of the cosmetics sector also paved the way for microbiological innovation and paved the way for cosmetic microbiology research.

Impact of Microbiology

By nature, our cells fight against microbes in our bodies and this is frequently demonstrated by the formation of pus and wound inflammation.

Macrophages play an important part in the immune system as they are able to ingest microbes through open wounds into the body.

Microbes could however rapidly adapt and mutate, resulting in opportunistic infectious diseases such as HIV. Microbes, on the contrary, can help us as the lactobacillus ‘good bacteria’ in our digestive system function.

How Cosmetic Microbiology Comes into Play?

Cosmetic products offer an optimum medium for microbial contaminants: They contain all the microorganisms required to grow with proteins, sugar, vitamins, oils and water. The neutral pH values and storage in a warm and moist bathroom are ideal for bacteria and moulds.

Many microorganisms enter the product through hand and mouth. Sometimes the product is already contaminated by contaminated raw materials during the production process, for instance.

For the consumer, most microorganisms are harmless. However, in infants and elderly or sick, microbial contaminants can cause dangerous infections.
