This international initiative will help to raise awareness about the importance of keeping your hands smooth at a time when we need to follow this simple practise more than ever before. Every year on October 15th, the World Handwashing Day is held to help the world develop handwashing habits.

In particular, bad hand hygienics may have both direct and indirect effects (diseases, loss of life) (increased absenteeism at schools and workplaces, company loss, economics, etc.).

You can use clean water and soap for at least forty to 60 seconds, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Today, on the occasion of Global Handwashing Day, we tell you a 7-step Handwashing Guide.

7 steps to Wash your hands

  • First, use running water to wet your hands. Apply soap and rub your hands to get moisture.
  • Clean with your right hand the back of your left palm and intertwine your extended fingers as well. Repeat your left hand to the same process. Check for proper clean-up of each region between your fingers.
  • Now, bring together your hands and put your fingers again.
  • Bend your fingers with your palms face to face and shift your fingertips gently to remove the dirt left.
  • Keep your left-hand thumb now with your right hand and move your fingers around the thumb in a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction. The alternate hand repeat it.
  • Put your palms together and rub them in a circular motion.
  • Clasp the wrist of one hand using another and clean it by rubbing in clockwise and anticlockwise fashion. Repeat with the alternate hand and then rinse off using running water. Either allow your hands to air-dry or use a clean towel to do so.
