Do oxygen checks like this at home

  1. You should not have nail polish on your finger before checking the oxygen level with an oximeter. Nails should be cleaned. If hands are cold, then rub both hands and heat them.
  2. Hands should rest for at least five minutes before measuring.
  3. Place your hand on the chest towards the heart. Then turn on the oximeter and place the middle finger or index finger in the oximeter.
  4. There may be fluctuations in the beginning, so wait for the oxygen level to stabilize. Keep the oximeter on for at least a minute or more until the reading is stable.
  5. Keep checking the oxygen level at the same interval four times a day or every four hours. Note down each recording.
  6. To keep the oxygen level right, lie down and breathe at home with 4-5 pillows. Monitoring of oxygen levels is important for COVID-19 patients, it should not be less than 94 per cent.
  7. COVID-19 patient should do a 6-minute ‘walk test’. That is, walk inside the room for 6 minutes and then check oxygen. If there is a fluctuation of 4 per cent or more, then admission to the hospital may be required on the advice of doctors.
