EMBL is looking for a Research Technician on a part-time base to join the group of Dr. Detlev Arendt in the Developmental Biology Unit at the EMBL Heidelberg, Germany. The Arendt group studies and compares marine invertebrate animals and their constituent cells, to understand the origin and evolution of the nervous system and of the entire animal body.
The successful candidate will work on the validation of cell types in the annelid Platynereis dumerilii via super resolution microscopy in order to identify transcription factors and the gene loci that they bind to.
She/he will also work on specific research assignments, alone and in collaboration with other lab members.
Intuitiveness, the ability to take responsibility and work independently, as well as in a team, are required. Motivation to work in a multidisciplinary and international environment is fundamental to this position.
The ideal applicant should hold an appropriate degree from a university or technical school training in molecular cell biology. Experience in molecular biology is essential for this position.
The ideal candidate should have ample experience with single molecule fluorescent in situ hybridization and hybridization chain reaction in wholemount specimens, staining of transcription factors and staining of nascent transcripts to validate regulatory interactions.
The ideal candidate should have a special interest in basic science and laboratory work, is able to plan strategically, possesses a special attention for details, is very well organized and can manage time effectively.
Fluency in English is expected.
