What is the best mask to protect from Covid-19?

Masks are sensors, trapping gout and particles that we breathe. But do you wear a cloth mask, an N95 mask or a medical paper mask? How about valve masks? Or the face shields?

Recent research in the journal Physics of Fluid compares the efficacy of the blocking of virus particles by face caps, valve masks and fabric face covers. This is one of the studies undertaken after the coronavirus pandemic to explain the propagation of the disease.

Masks are sensors, trapping gout and particles that we send. But do you wear a cloth mask, an N95 mask or a medical paper mask? How about valve masks? Or the shields facing? The results of the analysis are shown below.

Either ways, experts say any face covering is better than nothing at all.

The N95s & N99s

Agencies suggest that N99 and N95 masks first be reserved for healthcare workers: both seal tightly around their nose and mouth to allow very few viral particles into or out of their bodies. They also contain enmeshed fibres to block the pathogens in the air.

A study published in last month’s Journal of Hospital Infection evaluated more than 10 masks for airborne coronavirus particulate filtering.

The researchers say that N99 masks decreased the risk of infection in a person by 94 to 99 per cent in a highly polluted area after 20 minutes of exposure. N95 masks provided nearly equal security – the name refers to their limited 95% aerosol filtering performance.

Recent research has also shown that N95 masks provide better safety than operative masks.
