Bioinformatics India (“BioinfoT”, “we”, “us”) runs a community hub for bioinformatics professionals, researchers, and students in India — a Q&A forum, a jobs and internships board, and an opt-in talent directory. This policy explains what information we collect through the site, how we use it, and the choices you have.
When you register, we collect an email address, a display name, and a password (stored as a one-way hash, never in plain text). You can also sign in using your Google account via “Sign in with Google” — in that case Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us, and we never see or store your Google password.
Your profile can optionally include: position/title, institution, research interests, ORCID iD, Google Scholar/ResearchGate/GitHub/LinkedIn/personal website links, a short bio, a list of skills, and up to five publications. All of these fields are voluntary and editable at any time from your profile settings.
You can optionally upload a resume (PDF, under 5MB). Your resume is stored privately and is never publicly listed — see “Resumes and job applications” below for exactly who can access it.
Company accounts provide a company name, contact person, work email, website, industry, size, logo, and an “about” description when registering and posting jobs. New company accounts are manually reviewed before they can publish job listings.
Questions, answers, votes, bookmarks, and job postings are stored against your account. A first post from a new member is held for a brief manual moderation review before it goes live; after that, posts publish immediately.
Like most websites, our server logs standard technical information (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and abuse-prevention purposes, and we use cookies to keep you logged in and to remember basic preferences.
Your resume is never publicly downloadable. It can only be accessed by: you (the owner), site administrators, or a company you have actually applied to through the platform, and only for that specific application. Every resume download is authenticated and access-checked — there is no public link to any resume.
When you apply to a job, the company that posted it can see your name, resume, and any cover note you included, together with the status they set on your application (viewed, shortlisted, rejected, hired). We email you when a company changes your application’s status.
Your profile is private by default. It is only listed in the public talent directory, and only discoverable by companies browsing it, if you explicitly turn on “visible to companies” in your profile settings. You can turn this off again at any time.
We use Google Analytics (via the Site Kit plugin) to understand aggregate traffic patterns — which pages are visited, roughly how much traffic we get, and where it comes from. Google’s own privacy policy governs how it processes this data; see policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
BioinfoT is intended for use by students, researchers, and professionals, and is not directed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information — passwords are hashed, resume downloads are access-controlled and never publicly linked, and we run security tooling to block abusive traffic. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a strong, unique password.
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
